First Symbian OS Blackmail Trojan
Researchers have discovered malware which holds mobile phone data to ransom. The Kiazha.A code is currently targeting Symbian-based handsets in China. The malware removes all sent and received text messages, and threatens to permanently cripple the handset unless users pay a fee. This time the malware, running on Symbian Series 60 phones, attempts to extort money from users. SymbOS/Kiazha.A displays a message telling the user to send RMB 50 (approx. $7) to the malware author in order to regain use of the phone. Kiazha.A is being distributed as part of a larger malware payload known as SymbOS/Multidropper.cr.
